Major diameterThe largest diameter of a thread.
Minor diameterThe smallest diameter of a thread.
LeadThe distance a thread advances axially in one turn.
GallingFriction between relative motion of moving surface causes material to break away away from the surface and thus causing a form of local welding. Soft materials are very susceptible for galling, but it can usually be avoided by use of proper lubricants.
PitchThe nominal distance between two adjacent thread roots or crests.
Pooching
Shank The part of a bolt between the head and the threaded section.
Thread runoutThe part of the bolt that forms the transition between the threaded and unthreaded section of the shank.
